FabuForum FAQ & Community Guidelines

Welcome to FabuForum, a community built to support collaboration and knowledge-sharing in nano- and microfabrication. Whether you’re a seasoned industry expert, a researcher, or a curious student, this is the place to ask questions, get answers, and exchange ideas. Thank you for being part of our growing ecosystem!

1. Our Mission

Cultivating a Collaborative Space for Nano- & Microfabrication

FabuForum exists to make nano- and microfabrication knowledge accessible for educational, research, and industrial purposes. We believe that by sharing expertise, connecting innovators with fabs, and speeding up problem-solving, we can fuel breakthroughs in nano-& microfabrication design and manufacturing.

How to Participate

  • Ask Great Questions: Let us know what you’re working on, where you’re stuck, and what you hope to learn.
  • Provide Helpful Answers: If you have relevant knowledge or experience, share it! Link to references, articles, or a FabuBlox process (via a URL in the “Process ID” field) to provide more context.
  • Offer Constructive Feedback: Feedback drives improvements, so offer detailed and constructive comments when replying to others.

2. FabuBlox Process Integration

Disagreements can spark growth and innovation—but let’s keep it respectful.

  • Unified Sign-In: Log into FabuForum with your FabuBlox account (and vice versa). One login unlocks both the collaboration on FabuForum and hands-on process design with FabuBlox.
  • Reference Processes: Working on a micro- or nanofabrication step using FabuBlox? Make sure your process is public (signified by the lock/globe icon in the top left of your process). Provide a direct link or the process ID in your FabuForum post. This helps others understand your context and offer more targeted advice.
  • Privacy Considerations: If your FabuBlox process is proprietary, be sure to share it only in private FabuForum categories or with those who have permission to view it. Always check your organization’s confidentiality policies before posting process details.

2. Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

Disagreements can spark growth and innovation—but let’s keep it respectful.

  • Criticize Ideas, Not People: Focus on the merits of an argument rather than on the individual presenting it.
  • Avoid Personal Attacks: No name-calling, insulting language, or inflammatory remarks.
  • Elevate the Conversation: Provide reasoned counter-arguments that help everyone learn and see multiple perspectives.

3. Your Contributions Count

Each post you make sets the tone for the community. By choosing to engage thoughtfully, you help shape an environment where interesting, informative discussions thrive. Use our forum features (likes, flags, watching, bookmarks) to enhance your own experience and to help others.

  • Encourage Good Posts: Like and share content you find helpful.
  • Flag Problematic Content: If you see disrespectful or spammy posts, flag them for moderator review rather than replying.

4. Security, Privacy, and Confidentiality

Public vs. Private Categories

  • Public Categories: All posts in public categories can be viewed by anyone. By posting here, you acknowledge that the information you share is not confidential or that you have the right to share it publicly.
  • Private Groups/Categories: Posts in private areas are visible only to authorized group members. The information you share in these areas remains private to those users.

Data Storage and Security

  • We securely store all forum data in U.S. datacenters.
  • We follow industry-standard security practices for data protection.
  • While we do everything in our power to keep information safe, please be mindful of what you choose to post. If in doubt, get the appropriate permissions or use the private categories to limit visibility.

5. Keep It Civil and On-topic

A healthy, vibrant forum hinges on everyone’s commitment to respectful, relevant discussion.

  • No Harassment or Hate Speech: This includes (but is not limited to) offensive, abusive, or threatening language.
  • No Spamming or Vandalizing: Advertisements and irrelevant links are not allowed.
  • Keep It Clean: Do not post obscene or sexually explicit content.
  • Don’t Post Private Information: Respect personal boundaries; never reveal anyone’s personal details without permission.

6. Keep It Tidy

We want to focus on the substance of discussions rather than housekeeping:

  • Post in the Correct Category: Read the category definitions and choose where your topic fits best.
  • No Cross-Posting: Don’t post the same question in multiple categories.
  • Meaningful Replies Only: Avoid no-content or “+1” replies; instead use the Like button.
  • Stay on Topic: Don’t divert a discussion with an unrelated tangent. If you have a new idea, start a new topic.

7. Post Only Your Own Stuff

Respect intellectual property rights. If you don’t have permission to share it, don’t post it. This includes:

  • Sensitive or Confidential Information: Any content protected by non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), trade secrets, or other confidentiality obligations.
  • Institutional Intellectual Property: Research findings, pre-publication materials, and any IP belonging to your university, employer, or partner organizations that you are not explicitly permitted to share.
  • Copyrighted Material: Articles, images, software, or other materials you do not have the right to distribute.
  • Pirated Content: Descriptions of, links to, or instructions for illegally downloading or using content or software.

If you’re unsure whether you can post something, err on the side of caution. When in doubt, seek clarification or permission from the rights holder first.

8. Empowering Collaboration & Learning

FabuForum is all about unlocking innovation in nano- and microfabrication. Through collaborative discussions, we aim to:

  • Accelerate Problem-Solving: Tap into a global community of experts and peers who can help you troubleshoot, refine process steps, or discover new techniques.
  • Enhance Education: Students, researchers, and professionals can learn from real-world experiences and documented processes.
  • Build Knowledge Repositories: By linking to FabuBlox processes and sharing insights, we collectively create a robust “knowledge library” for the field.

9. Moderation and Enforcement

Moderators are here to facilitate. They have special authority to keep discussions constructive:

  • Flagging: Community members are encouraged to flag posts that violate these guidelines.
  • Moderator Actions: We reserve the right to remove content or ban users who do not follow these guidelines.
  • Feedback Welcome: If you have concerns about moderation decisions or suggestions for improvement, please start a discussion in the Site Feedback category.

10. Thank You, and Welcome to FabuForum!

Thank you for helping us create a thriving community where everyone can learn, share, and collaborate on the future of design and nano/microfabrication. By participating in FabuForum, you’re fueling innovation and expanding the collective knowledge of our industry.

Let’s build something amazing together!
